State Highway Induced Frequency of Travel (SHIFT) Calculator

The Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) is a nonprofit of experts across disciplines working to accelerate the clean energy transition. RMI hired BlinkTag to build a microsite to support publication of RMI’s groundbreaking report on induced travel demand. The report and website center around an interactive calculator, wherein a user can estimate the millions of metric tons of carbon, miles of vehicle travel driven, and gallons of gasoline consumed per mile of new highway lane.

This calculator builds on BlinkTag's previous work with the National Center for Sustainable Transportation (NCST) at the University of California Davis and the California Induced Travel Calculator. The SHIFT Calculator works for all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.

More about induced travel demand:

Streetsblog wrote an article about the SHIFT Calculator.
