Project overview
The challenge
NACTO needed a web edition of its print guide, with room for examples that could not fit on the printed page.
Our work
We built searchable chapters with interactive illustrations, photographs, case studies, and video. Individual sections could be linked directly, making the resource easier to reference in a planning conversation.
A publication staff could maintain
Working with Nelson\Nygaard, BlinkTag built the guide on WordPress, spanning more than 70 chapters. Staff could update guidance, link to resources, and add examples.
A national guide, introduced by Janette Sadik-Khan
The guide and its web edition launched in Washington, D.C., in 2013, introduced by Janette Sadik-Khan, then New York City Transportation Commissioner and NACTO President.

Endorsed across cities and states
As of October 2026, NACTO’s published list includes 54 city endorsements or adoptions and nine state departments of transportation. The U.S. Department of Transportation has also endorsed the guide.
