When a narrator, describing other candidates, says, “Political insiders and career politicians,” a woman’s face appears onscreen and she says, “What? Are you shitting me?” (The word “shitting” is bleeped out, as are all the other curse words in the add.) Then, a man comes on and asks, “Are you fucking kidding me?” He’s followed by another man who simply says, “What the fuck?”

We’re excited that James is getting good publicity and that he is getting recognized for his innovative campaign. Take a look at his website: http://jamesperry2010.com.

Maybe spreading common sense ideas and stating the obvious is a way for San Francisco’s most widely read fishwrapper to avoid the fate of other dailies, but I guess it’s good that they finally figured it out:

MAYBE HAVING 26 TRANSIT AGENCIES IS BAD FOR BAY AREA COMMUTERS. Like, duh.

Sarcasm aside, turns out that MTC is making noise about actually fixing the problems of route overlap, uncoordinated planning, and general inefficiency in our public transportation network. Maybe the new plans will work better than Translink did. One can hope.

We’ve been using twitter for a while and have helped a few of our clients get up and running. Explaining the concept of twitter to someone can be challenging, and new users are bound to make mistakes.

Virginia GOP chairman Jeff Frederick used twitter to ruin his party’s chances of luring a Democratic senator to switch parties, shifting the balance of power with this tweet:

“Big news coming out of Senate: Apparently one dem is either switching or leaving the dem caucus. Negotiations for power sharing underway.”

Meanwhile, New York Republican Jim Tedisco used twitter to pull in nasty comments from his opposition directly to his website in real time. Tweets like:

“Will Tedisco Finally Reimburse Taxpayers Over $21,000 For His 20-Minute Car Ride?”

made it on his site.

Moral? Don’t use twitter to discuss secret negotiations and avoid publishing unfiltered tweets on your website if you have people that don’t like you.

[Thanks to Daily Kos and Talking Points Memo for spotting these gems.]

(as in REPUBLICAN) Rep. from Illinois, Ray LaHood. Given OB’s promise to bridge partisanship in his cabinet, the choice, while coming from left-field, shouldn’t surprise: LaHood has a reputation as a centrist, and has a record, sort-of, of supporting infrastructure spending (if only because Caterpillar is one of his largest campaign contributors). But dissent over the choice isn’t hard to find.

Given the train-wreck (or bridge collapse, or metaphor of choice) of an infrastructure policy we’ve been blessed with, shouldn’t the President Elect have chosen someone a bit more forward thinking? What gives?

On a selfish note, we here at Blinktag Inc. might garner a contract or two investigating the cause of the next catastrophic failure. But as a nation, we deserve better.
